In a major boost to its green energy sector, the Odisha government has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with Japan’s IHI Corporation and India’s ACME Group for a combined investment of ₹67,000 crore. Signed in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain, the partnership aims to develop three massive clean energy projects expected to create roughly 7,000 jobs.
The planned infrastructure includes a ₹20,000 crore green ammonia plant (0.4 MTPA) alongside a ₹1,000 crore jetty-less floating terminal at Gopalpur-Tata SEZ. Additionally, a ₹34,000 crore green ammonia facility (0.8 MTPA) and a ₹12,000 crore methanol plant are slated for Paradip. To anchor these initiatives, Odisha is establishing dedicated green industrial corridors across Paradip, Kendrapara, and Gopalpur. Looking to deepen international ties, CM Majhi has invited IHI Corporation to set up a 'Japanese Green Engineering and Innovation Centre' in the state, while both Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company have expressed keen interest in exploring sustainable fuel and green chemical ventures.
